MEDIA is a six-year programme of the European Union to strengthen the competitiveness of the European film, TV and new media industries and to increase international circulation of European audiovisual product. MEDIA Desk offices are located in EU countries + some East European countries. The Desks are responsible for informing and advising the professionals in the film, TV and multimedia sector about the audiovisual policies and programmes of the EU. Independent production and distribution companies can apply for development or distribution funding in the form of grants and interest free loans. Financial assistance is available for training providers and organisers of markets and festivals. Individuals may also benefit from subsidised places on training courses and international markets.

Finnish Film Foundation PDF Print E-mail

The Finnish Film Foundation´s task is to support and develop Finnish film production, distribution and exhibition. The Finnish Film Foundation is an independent foundation which is supervised by the Department for Cultural Policy in the Ministry of Education. The Foundation is supported by grants from the Finnish National Lottery and by the Finnish Broadcasting Company, and it grants film production support, exhibition and distribution support and support for international activities. On the grounds of a contract made with the Ministry of Education, the Foundation grants support for international film festivals held in Finland which also have national significance. The Finnish Film Foundation is integrally responsible for the cultural export of Finnish film. It receives approx. EUR 8.7 million per year, and subsidizes about ten feature films and 35 short and documentary films every year.

AVEK - Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture PDF Print E-mail

AVEK was established in 1987 by the Finnish copyright organization Kopiosto. AVEK uses its share of copyright remuneration to promote AV culture; cinema, video and television. The majority of the funds that AVEK uses originates from private copying levy; e.g., from blank video cassettes and blank DVDs. AVEK promotes a wide range of projects in the field of audiovisual culture. AVEK funds short films and documentaries, videos, media art and multimedia projects, as well as experimental work in the field. AVEK´s production section is divided into two categories: 1. short films and documentaries, and 2. media art/multimedia projects.Within each category, it is possible to apply for funding for script writing (individual screenwriters only), pre-production, production, post-production and distribution (production companies). AVEK also supports training programmes for professionals, festivals and other AV events, and research in the AV sector.

Arts Council of Finland PDF Print E-mail

The Arts Council of Finland consists of national councils for architecture, cinema, dance, design, literature, music, photography, theatre and visual arts. It is funded by the Ministry of Education and allocates funds and grants both to projects and individual artists. In the field of cinema, the Council contributes to artist-in-residence programmes, film festivals, multidisciplinary and media art projects, film productions, regional film centres, etc. Every year, the Arts Council gives out 11 state prizes, awarding achievement in different fields of art.
